Is It Time to Change Your Toothbrush?

How long have you had your current toothbrush for? Has it been since the last time you visited Gentling Smiles for a dental exam and cleaning? Our dentists do provide toothbrushes for your convenience after each visit, but it may be time for a spring cleaning with your toothbrush. We encourage you to continue reading on to see if it is time to change your toothbrush out for a cleaner, more effective one.

If you are contemplating changing out your toothbrush, then it is probably time to do exactly that. The American Dental Association (ADA) suggests replacing your toothbrush for a new one every three to four months. If the bristles begin to fray, then sooner may be necessary. A frayed and worn toothbrush will quickly lose effectiveness. Newer and fresher toothbrushes provide a more thorough clean and clear out plaque better than a worn out and old toothbrush.

When should you change your toothbrush out sooner?

Bacteria found in your mouth can transfer to your toothbrush. This can lead to further contamination in the future. To properly kill out the bacteria in your mouth you need a clean and fresh toothbrush head. Ask your dentist which type of toothbrush is best for your smile. Using the wrong brush may cause your gums and teeth more harm than good.

Contact Gentling Smiles for more information on keeping your smile fresh and health. Proper care and keeping of your oral health can help to eliminate procedures and issues in the future. This includes daily brushing and flossing of your teeth and gums. Call our Gentling Smiles dental clinic today to set up your next dental exam and cleaning to keep your smile healthy and clean.
